What is an adoption circle?

An adoption circle is a group of up to 12 adoptive parents who meet to share and listen to each other's experiences. It is a non-judgmental space, hosted by two adopters, with no social worker or professionals present. Circle is based on an ancient practice of meeting for support.

Is this a support group? How does circle differ from a support group?

An adoption circle is both similar to a support group since you are invited to share your experience but different in that others are there to listen but not respond to what you have said. You are welcome to talk during the time before circle or after but this is a time to listen.

What will it be like?

Accepted Answer

We will meet in a home and sit in a circle. The hosts will introduce the session and ask a broad question and then an object will be passed around and when you hold the object, it is your turn to share if you would like to. There is no time limit but we will each get a turn to speak.

Will there be food or drinks?

We will provide tea or coffee but no food.

Both! This is not a gendered space.
