We are professionals. We are enthusiasts. We are artists. We are tap dancers.

And we are bringing you a South Florida National Tap Dance Workshop on Friday, May 25th, 2018. Join us as we share our absolute love of tap dancing!

Teachers/Event Hosts:

 

Kelly Carter - 

Kelly began her dance career after she graduated from Howard W. Blake high school for the performing arts in Tampa, Florida with a "Masters in Dance". Kelly then went to study at Florida Atlantic University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and minor in marketing in 2017. While studying at FAU Kelly danced professionally for the Florida Panthers. Kelly was also a published fitness model from 2013-2017. In 2017, Kelly won the title of “Miss South Florida”. Kelly has been teaching dance and choreographing since 2011 at studios across Florida, including Millennium Dance Complex Miami. She has continued to study dance at multiple schools including but not limited to; Millennium Dance Complex LA, The Boston Conservatory, LA Tap Fest, and the Human Rhythm Project. Kelly has won many awards for her choreography at regional and national level competitions. Kelly hopes to continue to inspire dancers and encourage the art of tap dancing among young students. 

Alexandra Varillas - 

Alexandra is a dance instructor and choreographer from Coral Springs, FL. Alexandra began dancing at the age of 3 and has trained in Ballet, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Acrobatics, Lyrical, and Tap Dance. At the age of 15, she became certified to instruct dance in Florida and has taught ever since! Since college, Alexandra makes it a point to attend master classes in venues such as Millennium Dance Complex, U4RIA Dance Studios, and other tap workshops. Alexandra was raised in a Hispanic household, where dancing Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, and Samba were very important. She is heavy influenced by Hispanic dances in the forms that she teaches now. She currently teaches adult hip-hop, Zumba, and tap dance classes.  

Elijah McKenna Eyerly - 

Elijah McKenna Eyerly is a highly awarded Championship Dancer, Actor, Choreographer, and Designer hailing from Gainesville, FL and currently residing in St. Augustine, FL where he studied Theatre at Flagler College. He began his training under the guidance of the Butler School of Irish Dance at the age of seven years old. A winner of the Carson-Getts Award, he went on to train at a number of Studios in varying dance styles. He has also studied privately under the guidance of international stars Owen Barrington, Michael Patrick Gallagher, Jason Samuels Smith, and Colin Dunne. McKenna went on his first tour at the age of 12 with Inisheer Irish Dance Company and has shared the stage with bands such as Leahy, Lúnasa, An Triur, and Shae Laurel on their respective Tours. He was most recently seen performing in Orlando, FL with Sarah Costello’s company Irish Echoes and Andy Cooney and Shauna McStravock’s Enchanted Music of Ireland National Tour. McKenna’s dancing has sent him across the United States and the world. His artistry has taken him across many genres including Hip-Hop and Rap with the super-group Mental Patients. His lyricism has also allowed him to share the stage with the critically acclaimed KRS-One. McKenna’s highly anticipated upcoming performances this year include, but are not limited to: a Tour of Ireland, the Dr. Phillips Center in Orlando, Lee Payne’s TapSymphony in England, the Jacksonville Jazz Festival, and a Tour of the United States with Andy Cooney and the Irish Pops Ensemble.

 Keith Prater - 

Keith "HappyFeet" Prater is a dancer and choreographer from Pasadena, CA. Keith has received formal training in Tap, Hip-Hop, Horton and Graham Modern techniques, Jazz, Contemporary, African, and Classical Ballet. Keith has trained under Tap Master Chester Whitmore. Keith studied Dance at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK., and holds a Certification in Dance from the International Dance Academy Hollywood (IDA Hollywood). From there, Keith went on to study under names such as Chloe and Maud Arnold, Jason Janas, Derick Grant, Sarah Reich, and Greg Russell.  Keith is Currently Faculty at Tulsa Ballet. Some of Keith's credits include working with Dawn Richard, Cedric The Entertainer, the "Syncopated Ladies”, Tulsa Ballet, Tulsa Opera, Theatre Tulsa, and Brian Nhira from Season 10 of NBC's "The Voice." Keith is signed with McDonald Selznick Talent Agency (MSA).  

Niki Humphrey-Molinar - 

Niki Humphrey-Molinar, an active duty service member in the United States Air Force, is a native of Columbus, Ohio.  She brings forth a truly unique, hard-hitting, street style of tap dancing.  She began her dance journey at the age of five, under the instruction of Stephanie Bland, founder and artistic director of Two Left Feet Dance Studio in Columbus, Ohio. By the age of eight, Niki quickly knew that tap would be her first love. Be it that Niki was raised in the studio alongside African & Latin drummers, Hip Hop & Break dancers, African dancers, Tap, Ballet, and Jazz dancers, she incorporates many of these genres into her style. Although the Air Force takes Niki all over the world, she always finds a way to teach and bring forth her passion for tap wherever she lands.

Jenne Vermes - 

A resident of Jacksonville, Jenne Vermes is a professional dancer and dance teacher. Having danced for over thirty years, she teaches tap and other dance styles at various studios and schools in Jacksonville, St. Augustine, Gainesville and Orange Park, FL, as well as master classes at National festivals and workshops. She is currently the professor of Tap Dance at both Florida School of the Arts and the University of Florida. She is the Director, Choreographer and Lead Dancer of two professional Florida-based tap dance companies: Noise Complaint - Tap Dance Theatre and Rhythm Theory Tap Ensemble.

FAQs

 

Can I purchase tickets at the event on May 25th?

Yes, we will be able to accept purchase on the day of the event. Cash or credit card.

 

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

No, but please make sure you are comfortable with the class skill level before you register.

 

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

The studio is in a plaza, with plenty of parking spaces.

 

What can I bring into/wear at the event?

You should wear anything you are comfortable working out in. Please bring tap shoes (if you have an extra pair, please bring it, another person might be able to use it), water, your ID's/payment, and a smile :)

What's the refund policy?

Sorry, we are not able to refund you for this event. If you want to transfer your ticket (i.e. you bought a ticket for Improv but would rather take Tapping w/ Latin Drums) then we can do that for you. Please contact organizer ahead of time, alexmvarillas@gmail.com or 954-695-3779.

 

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Nope, just an ID so we can confirm.

 

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

We'd like it to match the attendee please.
