Each year thousands of people converge on the annual South Dakota Festival of Books, a weekend-long event that features more than 60 well-known authors participating in book signings, presentations, panel discussions and readings. Author presentations are separated into six tracks: fiction, non-fiction, poetry, children’s/youth, history/tribal, and writer’s support. This year we've included an additional track for our festival theme: American Indian Cultures.
Over the course of eight festivals, many distinguished authors and cultural figures have attended, such as Marilynne Robinson, Ted Kooser, Dave Eggers, Sonia Monzano, Annie Proulx, Quincy Troupe, Susan Power, Louise Erdrich, Pete Dexter, and Ivan Doig; NPR hosts Carl Kassel and Neal Conan; and publishing industry representatives including Judy Hottensen, John Glusman, and Paul Cirone.
All attendees will require a wristband at the festival. Please print out your registration sheet and present it on site at a festival registration table (either in the Deadwood Pavilion, at the Deadwood Public Library, or outside the Lead-Deadwood Elementary School) to receive your free wristband. Registrants may receive their wristbands early by presenting their printed registration sheet at the Deadwood Public Library or the Rapid City Library's downtown branch.
