Event description

Description

DC Listening Lounge is again taking the SHH out of HirSHHorn

The sounds of our politically driven town are often dissonant, but the sounds of the city are not only political. The audio culture of DC is rich and varied.

Visitors can explore the sounds of our creative city through hands-on audio construction, headphone listening and more. Audio features will be accessible to the deaf as well as hearing audiences through full-body listening installations and new works featuring special integrated technology to enhance the listening experience for all guests. ASL interpreters will be on-site.

Local audio collective artists from the DC Listening Lounge, as well as national and international contributors, will showcase audio across 4 floors and outdoors. Live performances from Layne Garrett, The National Symphony Orchestra and Takoma Park's Pan Lara will enhance the celebration.

This one-day, all-ages, free-to-the-public event will take place on July 8, 2017 from 10am to 5pm at the Smithsonian Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden (700 Independence Ave. SW, Washington, DC 20560).

There will be a children's audio postcard workshop along with guided listening sessions and workshops where you can learn to capture the sounds around you.*

To celebrate 10 years, DCLL's Sound Scene will also feature panel discussions to highlight the vibrant sonic tapestry of Washington DC – from basement music shows and underground recording labels, to regional rhythms and national broadcasts and so much more.

Join us for a day of sound so lively, your other senses will be jealous!
