Event description

Description

Facilitated by Josh Chal and Robb Feldhaus

Sonic Meditation: A collaborative soundscape of the human condition that explores creativity, improvisation, and the "here and now" with personal sharing.

From the very early stages of life we are taught to block our creativity whether it be for means of conformity or a fear of judgment—these learned behaviors tend to hinder us from living to our full expressive potential. An inability to live in a free and creative nature can have a number of adverse manifestations. Exploration of these blocks will aid participants in gaining insight into their unique relationship with creativity. A safe-space where people can explore, partake in the creative process, and share insights provides a transformative experience for many, this class will also, and equally important, be a fun experience for all.

Clarity and insight will be discovered through a sonically driven meditation that is manifested by the group. This sonic element is created through the use of various instruments, noise makers, and digital audio workstations. However, before the sonic element is explored the group will begin with a simple check-in of self, followed by a short introduction into a common creativity block. After this we will begin the meditation with the use of some natural samples (wind, rainforest, birds...) There is no expectation or requirement to participate in the sonic element as people are welcome to simply be present and meditate.

The Hive is not open 11/20-11/23 for Thanksgiving week.

Josh Chal is fascinated by human connections created with music/sound, and the trust that naturally roots through such experiences. He holds a Master's in counselor education with a research focus using Music Technology to build trust in therapy. Robb Feldhaus is a lifelong meditator and jazz pianist. He has a private practice that specializes in working with creatives and people with a spiritual appetite.
