Fourth Coast Ensemble and Sparks & Wiry Cries present the second annual Chicago songSLAM, a competition for new art song. This lively event will be emcee’d by Jake Heggie, composer of the operas Dead Man Walking, Moby Dick, and over 300 art songs.

10-12 teams (pianist/singer/composer) will present a new song of no more than 5 minutes for voice and piano in any language for the voting audience, who—in the poetry slam tradition—will then vote on their favorites and award $2,000 in prize money.

Fourth Coast Ensemble will perform music by Jake Heggie during the ballot counting.

VOTE FOR THE WINNER

Want to be a part of handing out $2,000 in audience-awarded prizes? In the poetry slam tradition, the audience vote decides who wins first prize ($1,000), second prize ($600), and third prize ($400).

This event is made possible by generous sponsorship support from Dana Brown.
