Event description
A special show celebrating the songs of Labor struggles, antiwar protests, the Civil Rights era, and inspiring songs of freedom

About this Event

Folk songs have a long history as a way for ordinary people to protest injustice and oppression, demand freedom and rights, and inspire each other to action. Gathering Time's newest specialty show reaches back more than a century to songs of Labor struggles, antiwar protests, the Civil Rights era, inspiring songs of freedom and more, including songs by familiar folk artists, historic traditional songs, and original works.

Start with the 1960s folk tradition of Peter, Paul & Mary, add the vocal complexity and electric energy of Crosby, Stills & Nash, a dash of the Byrds, and a jot of Joni Mitchell, and you have Gathering Time. Gathering time is a folk-rock/Americana harmony trio that has been turning heads for nearly a decade on the northeastern folk circuit and beyond. Their stage chemistry makes clear that they take the music very seriously, yet their infectious energy wins over even fans who never considered themselves folkies.

Opening the show will be Philadelphia-based singer-songwriter Sam Steffen.
