
'Song of America' Workshop & Special Event with baritone Thomas Hampson

Description
The Hampsong Foundation, in collaboration with SongFest, the Colburn School, and LA Opera, presents a special Song of America event in Los Angeles, California featuring song settings of poetry by the great American writers Walt Whitman and Langston Hughes.
Join us on June 25th for this free, day-long event including:

A morning educator workshop, with activities for K-12 teachers and teaching artists on exploring classic song—poetry set to music—as a tool to tell the history of American culture,

A midday Honest American concert featuring Young Artists from SongFest singing songs with texts by Whitman and Hughes,

An afternoon master class titled Song in Dialogue with internationally-renowned baritone, educator, and Hampsong Foundation founder Thomas Hampson and young artists at SongFest exploring the power of classic American songs as the gateway to a richer knowledge of the cultures, languages, peoples, and events that have shaped American life.
Participants will also be provided with free tickets to the evening's SongFest concert, "Hooray for Hollywood: the Best Tunes of the American Sonbgook from the Golden Era of Movie-Musicals," with singers from SongFest and curated, coached and accompanied by composer John Musto.
