Event description

Description

Case Western medical, nursing, and all students are invited to attend the Someone You Love: The HPV Epidemic film screening on Friday, September 8th from 2pm-4pm at the Wolstein Auditorium. Narrated by Vanessa Williams, this poignant documentary takes a look into the lives of five women affected by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), the virus that causes several types of cancer. Their intimate stories shed light on the risks, myths, problems, politics, misconceptions and hard truths of the widespread epidemic. The film will be immediately followed by a speakers panel of medical professionals who will hold a question and answer session.

Panel speakers include:
Dr. Douglas Fleck, Regional Medical Director for Quality and Vaccines, Rainbow Primary Care Institute Medical Director
Dr. Lynn Simpson, Ob/Gyn, Cleveland Clinic
Dr. Sara Lee, Director of Health Services, CWRU University Health and Counseling Services

Refreshments will be provided.

As of 2015, approximately 79 million Americans are currently infected with HPV and 14 million people become newly infected each year. Come and learn about HPV-associated cancer and HPV vaccines to protect males and females against diseases, including cancer caused by HPV.

If you have any questions, please e-mail angela.kaloush@cancer.org.

This event is hosted by the American Cancer Society, American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, and University Health and Counseling Services.
