Event Details

Solving the Jigsaw for Students and Parents is a 10 week life skills program specifically designed to enhance the wellbeing of students and their families by developing important life skills, coping strategies, problem solving skills and the art of assertive communication. Building Resilience and teaching children, young people and parents/caregivers strategies is essential for students and families recovering from or dealing with their child’s experience of bullying and violence.

Solving the Jigsaw for Students and Parents consists of structured weekly activities where the children learn about a number of topics that impact on young people’s lives today and their wellbeing.

During the 10 weeks we will address the building blocks of resilience and optimism, relationships, strategies and support, develop a sense of belonging, and present a clear position that bullying and violence is unacceptable and must not be ignored.

The program has been tailored specifically to act as an early intervention and recovery program for children who are experiencing these issues, or might be confronted by them. The students are all in the age groups between upper primary and lower secondary school years in which early intervention and prevention programs have proven to have significant short and long term benefits.

*  A key point of difference with the program is that we include families in the recovery process.

PROGRAM AIMS:

  • To teach children, young people and parents strategies for dealing with bullying and violence
  • To learn and practice problem solving skills, communication techniques, explore ideas and support strategies. As a result, participants gain confidence and certainty about what is important in relationships, such as communication, the ability to deal with conflict, speaking up and staying safe and the importance of respect for self and others.

STRUCTURED ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:

  • Building Resilience
  • Exploring bullying and violence
  • Strengths and qualities, beliefs and values
  • Trust and support systems
  • Conflict resolution
  • Communication skills and strategies
  • Speaking up and staying safe
  • Feelings and emotions
  • Self-awareness and warning signals
  • Families and Solving the Jigsaw of Wellbeing

We look forward to meeting you soon and together making the Gold Coast the safest place to raise a child!

Rising statistics show that 1 in 6 Australian children are being bullied in some way on a weekly basis, and with the increasing reports of Australian children experiencing or witnessing violence in their lives, we have identified a need for alternative supports to be available within the community for students and their families who are unable to access recovery programs through schools and local agencies / service providers.

Fostering inclusive schools and inclusive communities!
