Event description

Description

Have you attended a Solutions Journalism training, but need some help formulating a solutions pitch or carrying out the reporting? And want to learn what multimedia reporting tools and techniques that might add value to your story? Join us!

This workshop is open to Sacramento area journalists who have already completed our initial Solutions Journalism Network training. Haven't done so yet? Just register here for our August 15 webinar (and make sure to show up ten minutes early as we are oversubscribed so not everyone will make it in!) The session will answer any of your lingering questions from the training, discuss the finer points of solutions reporting, and have ample time for conversation about the projects you're working on.

We'll also learn from Joe Proudman, a multimedia specialist at UC Davis whose work has been published in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, Reuters and WIRED. He is a graduate of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, where he focused on digital media journalism.

"Multimedia training can be intimidating, but at the end of the day it's all about storytelling," Proudman says. "Cameras, microphones and lenses are simply tools, and seasoned journalist often already posses the most important skill – the ability to tell compelling stories. This training will familiarize journalists with the tools that will help them tell stories visually, including cameras, microphones and software available. We'll discuss the production process and walk through taking a project from script to screen."
