Description

WELCOME to SoloPolyCon2017

The team behind Facebook's largest and most vibrant Solo Polyamory discussion group would like to invite you to join us in Vancouver for the world's first ever solo polyamory conference. An opportunity to meet other solo non-monogamous people and share experiences!

Taking place at Vancouver's Croatian Centre in the hip neighbourhood of East Van* over a full weekend 28-30 April 2017, the conference will include:

  • social events;
  • talks from speakers, including Kim TallBear (author of criticalpolyamorist.com) and Mel Mariposa Cassidy (relationship coach and author of Polysingleish.com);
  • several 'unconference-style' sessions during which participants are invited to offer their own discussions, workshops and skill-share sessions.

CONFERENCE OVERVIEW

During the weekend both Saturday and Sunday afternoons will take an 'unconference-style' format. This means attendees are invited to bring their own ideas for discussions, workshops and skill-share sessions; the schedule will be determined on the day. Please tell us if you're considering offering such a session, as this will help us to organise and promote the conference. Please also let us know if you can volunteer during the conference, or you'd like to be a sponsor or donor.

Friday evening. Arrival, registration and informal welcome reception at Croatian Cultural Centre.

Saturday's theme will be solo polyamory. The day will begin with an address from the conference organisers.

Saturday afternoon will comprise participant-led discussions, workshops and skill-share sessions. Topics people in the Solo Polyamory group have suggested so far include: love after the relationship escalator; figuring out and advocating for your needs and boundaries; writing your personal user manual; life hacks for solos; solo sexuality; solo poly for introverts; choosing a therapist.

On Saturday evening there will be selection of social options, ranging from board games to speed dating and dancing!

Sunday's theme will be solo polyamory and relationship anarchy. Many solo polyamorists also consider themselves relationship anarchists, or are interested in exploring the intersection between the two.

Before lunch on Sunday our keynote speakers will include Kim TallBear (author of criticalpolyamorist.com) and Mel Mariposa Cassidy (relationship coach and author of Polysingleish.com).

Sunday afternoon will comprise more participant-led discussions, workshops and skill-share sessions. Topics people in the Solo Polyamory group have suggested so far include: community building; experiences of racism, disablism, sexism and queer/trans*phobia within and beyond non-monogamous communities; commitment off the escalator; solo poly parenting, zine-making workshop.

The conference will formally close on Sunday evening.

*This conference takes place on Unceded Coast Salish Territories.
