Welcome to Solent Game Developers – Welcome Jam: Meet Your Party! This is the first event in a brand-new series of community meetups hosted by Antivenin Games and October Books, designed to bring the South’s game dev scene together. We’re kicking things off with a relaxed, creative afternoon where people from across the games industry can celebrate our shared passion for making games. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out, this jam is the perfect chance to network, collaborate, and learn from each other. It’s also your opportunity to help shape this new community from day one!
What’s happening:
- ⚡ Lightning intros – quick introductions to put faces to names.
- 🎯 Icebreakers – fun, low-pressure activities to get conversations flowing.
- 🎤 Optional “What I’m Building” speed pitches – share your project in under a minute.
- 📌 Community board – post jobs, asks, offers, and collaboration ideas.
What to bring:
- Your laptop (and powerstrip), sketchbook, or whatever you use to make cool stuff.
- Yourself- no pressure to present, just come ready to connect.
The space: We’re at October Books in the Portswood neighborhood in Southampton. They’ve got a full kitchen and bathroom facilities. We’ll have light snacks and drinks available, and there are plenty of food options nearby if you need something more substantial.
Come for the conversation, leave with new collaborators, fresh ideas, and a seat at the table for the start of something exciting in the South’s indie game scene. This is just the first checkpoint - future meetups will feature themed jams, industry talks, and more.
