This event is SOLD OUT! Please check out our next Girl Geek Dinner or join our mailing list. Thank you!

We are excited to announce a Girl Geek Dinner at Zendesk in San Francisco on Tuesday, June 25th – We can’t wait to host you in our San Francisco office for a taco bar, drinks, delicious sweets, fascinating lightning talks, and lots of networking with fellow girl geeks! Shawna Wolverton, Zendesk Senior Vice President of Product Management will be emcee-ing the Zendesk Girl Geek Dinner!

Join us as Zendesk Engineering & Product leaders share how we build technology that champion the customer service experience:

“ML in Support: Infusing a flagship product with innovative new features” by Eleanor Stribling, Zendesk Group Product Manager

Talk Description: “We’ve all heard a lot about shiny new AI and ML powered products and startups, but these technologies are often most useful in applications that already have a lot of users and data. In this talk, you’ll hear from a Group Product Manager in Support, our flagship product, about how the PM, design and engineering are collaborating with our Data Science team to integrate small, ML-driven improvements for thousands of users, as well as how we’re thinking about measuring outcomes for our customers and for Zendesk.”

“Code that writes code: Metaprogramming at Zendesk” by Swati Krishnan, Zendesk Software Engineer, Core Services

Talk Description: “This is a talk abut Metaprogramming in Ruby. We will talk about how metaprogramming is not just an esoteric programming tool, but can be used as a swiss army knife of coding techniques. I will use a live code example of how account feature flags are built in Zendesk to shed more light on this fascinating topic. This talk will cover intermediate Ruby paradigms including but not limited to dynamic methods, class macros, singletons.”

“Computer, Heal Thyself: Automating Oncall, So You Can Sleep Through It” by Alethea Power, Zendesk Staff Software Engineer, Site Reliability

Talk Description: “In a DevOps world, engineers are oncall for their services, and they get paged in the night to remediate outages. Some of these remediations can be automated by cloud providers and container orchestration systems, but some can’t. At Zendesk, we’re building a generic auto-remediation service to handle alerts, so our engineers can sleep through the night and focus on engineering during the day.”

Staying Cool Under Pressure – Lessons from Incident Management” by Erin McKeown, Zendesk Director, Engineering Risk Management

Talk Description: “At any point in time, an event can occur that rocks a companies foundation. Incidents can be highly intense, fast moving and challenging. Whether it be a devastating earthquake that threatens our employees’ safety or an intricate and widespread Security event that takes 75 engineers and nearly a year to remediate, there are valuable lessons to take from each and every one. Erin will be sharing the lessons she has learned through her experience in the field of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery.”
