Event Details

Theme: "Getting a VC We Don't Know To Mentor Us"

Professor Tom Kosnik and I have this theory that people do better when a mentor paves a way...

Yay, lets do a party and get this process going.

Lets get CS majors and VCs in a room

VCs are always hunting for CS talent.

B-school founders are just two developer founders short of rounding out their team.

Engineers also bitch about not having enough engineering talent.

Me and Professor Kosnik solve problems and thats where E145 comes in.
We are taking an already legendary class and taking it to the next next level during summer session.

Last year, I crashed 30 Stanford kids into major major tech conferences. Lets all execute my obnoxious article on GigaOm and over-the-top post in TechCrunch. It is required reading for engineers that expect to graduate street-smart**.

Step ONE is about "How to Charm a VC to Mentor Us"

Remember, in this age of 'Moore's law' and "everything is FASTER"...

...if you can not get your ROI for your $96 BEFORE you come... you should probably read my articles on "How to Work a Conference". If you don't get your money's worth before the party starts, you should not be coming and maybe you should re-think being an entrepreneur.

See the list of VCs I like HERE - The all-star VC line-up includes:

  • Roelof Botha (Sequoia)
  • Tom Ball (Austin Ventures)
  • Luke Nosek (Founders Fund)
  • Ken Howery (Founders Fund)
  • Jon Teo (Benchmark)
  • Mark Suster (GRP)
  • Rob Hayes (First Round)
  • Ethan Kurzweil (Bessemer)

Theme: #BYOVC

  • B - bring
  • Y - your
  • O - own
  • V - venture
  • C - captialist

Everyone has a VC friend that does not want to fund them. In my case I have about 80 of these 'friends'

HEY, have you heard of a "White Elephant"
gift exchange?! It is where you bring a gift you did not want and you pool all the unwanted gifts together. You get to pick one and you go through rounds where people trade, steal, borror, swap gifts. It is fun!

PLOT spoiler: Everyone goes home with a new gift they do not want.

Think of the BYOVC theme as a white elephant exchange for VCs.

Asse9 stands for Austin Secret Society of Entrepreneurs 9. It means if you're not striving to be entrepreneurial, you're asinine.

No we don't have a website or else it would not be very secret now would it

All we have is a hashtag that we rarely use '#asse9' but what we do have is a huge rolodex.
