Please note that a sequel event will be held on Saturday, November 3rd, from 2:00PM - 4:00PM, at The Nagomi Tea House, 519 Sixth Avenue South, in Seattle's International District.  The event will focus on "How to Eat Sushi The Expert Way" and will feature the same premier master sushi Chefs Shiro Kashiba and Daisuke Nakazawa.  Please email if you are interested in attending, and look for ticket information becoming available soon.

The Hokubei Hochi Foundation and The Japan Foundation, will sponsor a special film showing and sushi-sampling event entitled "The History and Culture of Edomae Sushi - From Tokyo to Seattle" on Sunday, September 23, 2012, from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM, at The Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience, 719 South King, Seattle, WA 98104. (See English and Japanese flyer below.) 

Since the feudal Edo period, masters of Edomae Sushi have continued to prepare with precision and simplicity, a showcase of local and seasonal delicacies of the sea. 

This special event will feature the film "Jiro Dreams of Sushi" followed by an educational and visual program featuring renowned local Chef Shiro Kashiba (of the famous Shiro's restaurant) and Chef Daisuke Nakazawa from Tokyo's famous Sukibayabashi Jiro restaurant.  The program will feature live demonstrations and Edomae Sushi and sake sampling. Chef Daisuke is featured in the film and recently moved to Seattle to mentor under Chef Shiro.  They will be assisted by chefs from I Love Sushi (Bellevue) and Sushi Ran (San Francisco).  

The movie is 81 minutes in Japanese with English subtitles, and will be followed by a live sushi demonstration and sushi and sake sampling. Tickets are $25 per person or $18 for students. Buy four tickets and fourth one is 1/2 off, buy six tickets and sixth one is free! 

Reception begins at 1:45-2:00 PM, film begins promptly at 2:00 PM.   Register early as space is limited.  You will not want to miss this event!   PLEASE REGISTER EARLY AS THIS EVENT IS EXPECTED TO SELL OUT ONE WEEK PRIOR TO THE EVENT.

北米報知財団、国際交流基金主催のイベント「江戸前鮨の伝統と文化:東京からシアトルまで」が9月23日(日)、午後2時から5時まで開催されます。

 

江戸前寿司は江戸時代から(1824年〜)、寿司職人の手により、地元の旬を生かした究極の味として紹介されて きました。

 

今回のイベントでは、映画「Jiro Dreams of Sushi」の上映後、地元の江戸前寿司職人加柴司郎さんと同映画に出演した中澤大祐さんによる実演が行われ、寿司と日本酒の試食、試飲を楽しんで頂けます。中澤さんは同映画に特集される寿司店「すきやばし次郎」からシアトルへ移転し、加柴さんに弟子入りしました。

 

上映時間は81分で英語字幕付です。入場券は一般$25、学生$18で、4枚ご購入頂くと一枚は半額になります。6枚ご購入頂くと、1枚は無料になります。

Hokubei Hochi Foundation, The North American Post, and Soy Source

The Hokubei Hochi (North American Post) Foundation is a non-profit 501c3 organization established in 2011 in Seattle, WA.  The Foundation sponsors news-related, cultural and educational programs and activities, as well as charitable projects associated with the North American Post newspaper. 

A major project is the digital archiving  of the North American Post newspaper to preserve the rich history and culture of Seattle's Nikkei (Japanese American) community and an inaugural Studen Intern Program which will include travel to Japan.
