Event description

Description

Be a gem and join ArtPoint for a fashion-forward evening of art and glamour at the Legion of Honor Museum. Don your finest metallics, jewel tones, and sparkles for a gilded evening of libations, dancing, and tours of the Jewels of the Maharajas from the Al Thani Collection. Guests will enjoy music by DJ KingMost, bejeweled surprises, and libations by Junipero Gin, Fort Point Beer, and local vintners.

This exhibition explores the cultural and material exchanges between India and Europe through jewelry and precious objects ranging from the seventeenth century to the present. From ceremonial jewelry to swords, daggers, and precious works of art, the exhibition 150 pieces made in India or Europe associated with Mughal emperors, maharajas, and their courts. Gender plays a significant role in this exhibition as, contrary to Western expectations, the most splendid jewelry was supplied exclusively for the male rulers of India.
