What you will learn:

Positioned at the intersection of business, design, and technology, product management is the fast emerging as one of the most critical roles in a technology company in the 21st century. Yet product managers often struggle to find concrete guidance on how to address the most pressing challenges of their day-to-day work.

In this workshop, you will learn the actual role of product managers and cutting-edge skills that are needed for a product manager such as business model generation, agile development, job-to-be-done design, design sprint, build habit-forming product and understanding customer insights through data. In this two days class, through a combination of lecture, discussion, hands-on design sprint and Q&A, we’ll focus on building the core skills that are critical for product managers. By the end of the course, you’ll work together with the fellow participants to create a marketable product going through the design sprint phases (understanding, sketch, decide, prototype and validate).

Course Outline:

Day 1

  • Understanding the role of product managers
  • Understand the Agile Development Process
  • Understand the Product Management Lifecycle, Design Sprint and how it applies
  • Learn about the business model generation on how to understand, design and implement a business model or rejuvenate an old one
  • Design a product with completing customer pains points through job-to-be-done framework
  • Understand human psychology to build habit-forming products
  • Finally understanding customer insights and product usage through data

Day 2

  • Workshop: Design a new business model (Group activities)
  • Workshop: Design Sprint – understand, sketch, decide, prototype and validate the product
  • Q&A



Course Leader:

WILLIAM LIM

Chief Architect | Concordya Inc.

With 13 year’s experience as a Software Architect, William is an expert in building scalable cloud-based solutions for the Software-As-A-Service industry. His first breakthrough came when Intuit acquired Entellium, a startup based in Seattle where he is the lead architect. As the Entellium development center is in Kuala Lumpur, he was invited to join Intuit in Mountain View as Software Staff Engineer. While in Intuit, he works with experienced product managers, UX designers, data scientist and software engineers in the Grow Your Business Division. He was nominated as Most Valuable Professional in the Grow Your Business Division in 2012.

He decided to return to Malaysia in Dec 2012 as a Chief Architect for Ezypay and moving up to Director of Product Development position before leaving to Beijing in 2015. For the past 2 years, he works as the Chief Architect for a FinTech startup in China Silicon Valley - Zhongguancun. His diverse experience in software development from both Silicon Valley of the West and the East makes him the ideal person to share his knowledge and the Product Management best practices from both worlds.

He is currently starting his own PropTech startup in Malaysia.
