Sofia Chiarandini concert
Violinist, Eclectic music mix
Sunday, June 4, 7pm

A young musician based in Connecticut, Sofia will perform a mix of old-time Appalachian tunes, early country and swing, as well as some contemporary pieces. She has been playing violin since age 5 and currently studies fiddle with grammy award winner Stacy Phillips and attends Berklee School of Music.

Sofia’s earliest musical experience was classical violin, but to date she has performed in folk, rock, jazz and bluegrass genres with ensembles and solo. In these acts she has played violin, flute, double bass, bass guitar, mandolin, piano, lead vocals, harmony vocals and has sung a capella. She has also worked as a studio musician on recordings. Her awards include the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival scholarship to the Mark O’Connor summer program at Berklee College of Music, and the 2014 Bob Christopher scholarship. In the classical world, Sofia has been a finalist in the Danbury Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition and was awarded the first Runner up in 2012. After performing with Norwalk Youth Symphony for four years, Sofia was a bassist in Danbury Community Orchestra for six years and joined Danbury Symphony Orchestra as a first violinist for the 2014-2015 season.
