SoDA Roundtable: Is Data Driven Marketing the Holy Grail for Agencies?


In this online SoDA Roundtable we will explore the trending topic of Data-Driven Marketing.

From SoDA member company, Sideways, Head of Strategy Aina Abiodun and Director of Online Marketing & Analytics Ganesh Prabhu will discuss how data-driven marketing has been hailed as the holy grail for agencies in recent years, and client's expectation of increasingly more efficiencies and insights-based marketing success from agencies. How we acquire and parse the data in ways that are meaningful to our clients’ businesses vary from one agency to another. From data scientists to insights tools and machine learning, there is a wide variety of practices being deployed by marketers.

Because the space is so noisy with new platforms and sometimes dubious claims of success, we’d like to focus on some of the real, ground-level and accessible practices agencies are engaged in which achieve real insight into markets and consumer behavior. We also want to open the floor for a discussion to hear and discuss everyday challenges agencies face with data. 

Discussion Points Include:

  • Data becoming more of a necessity and commodity for marketing success
  • What's the future looking like? Are there ways to go around it?
  • How do digital companies ensure that their clients gain data into consumer behavior?

Aina Abiodun, Head of Strategy, Sideways

Aina Abiodun is the Head of Strategy at Sideways, a New York creative agency where she steers brand, content and digital strategy for a wide range of clients from hospitality to fashion and consumer electronics. As a digital culture pioneer, Aina founded StoryCode, a global organization for cross-platform and immersive creatives which introduced the world's first story hackathon. A frequent speaker about innovation in storytelling and digital culture and, she has spoken at the Museum of Modern Art on immersion and the future of audience experiences, the Guggenheim Museum in New York about identity and algorithms, and at South By Southwest Interactive, Media that Matters, Social Media Week, Digital Dumbo and Northside Festival.


Ganesh Prabhu

Ganesh Prabhu, Director of Online Marketing & Analytics, Sideways

Ganesh Prabhu is Director of Online Marketing & Analytics at Sideways, a New York creative agency. His obsession with all things digital started at age thirteen tinkering with websites. With a masters in TV & Film Production, he went on to work for media brands like MTV and Disney during the exciting 2000s where he spearheaded the crossover between digital and TV and saw the advent of “streaming.” He managed strategy for prime digital properties for MTV including the world's sixth most engaging Facebook page. At Sideways, Ganesh manages a wide variety of functions that include email, SEO, SEM, social advertising, and analytics.
