Event description

Description

Sociocracy is a governance system that supports healthy group process: authority is distributed into small, empowered groups that operate as equals and with clarity. Sociocracy is used worldwide in a variety of organizations, like for-profits, associations, communities, cooperatives and schools.

In this workshop, participants will have two (simultaneous) tracks to chose from:

  • An introductory track, taught by Jerry Koch-Gonzalez. He will provide an overview over the basic concepts of sociocracy: how we make decisions, how we empower and connect teams and we can improve continuously over time. Participants will do exercises and role plays so everyone can experience the clarity, consideration and flow that sociocracy brings.
Everyone will walk away with a solid understanding of what sociocracy envolves, ideas on how to implement individual tools and processes, and with a sense of the possibilities that sociocracy opens to organizations.
  • An intermediate track, taught by Ted Rau. This class is intended for people who already know the basics of sociocracy and/or are using sociocracy in an organization. We will address "alive" issues in organizations brought by the participants. We will pick issues using the sociocratic selection process, with the commitment of finding topics that apply to organizations in general, for example: how to create more clarity in meetings and between the domains of circles and/or roles, how to create more accountability from groups and individuals and how to improve our organizational culture by giving feedback that improves our collaboration.
Everyone will walk away with specific ideas on how to improve and implement sociocracy in existing organizations.

Both workshops will touch on the following topics:

  • Deciding together so no one is ignored (consent)
  • A place for everything and everything in its place: organizational structure
  • Linking - connecting teams for more flow of information
  • Being intentional about who does what: sociocratic open elections
  • Learning and feedback: how we can improve what we do and how we do it

Lunch and snacks are provided!
