8:00 – 8:30      Registration and Continental Breakfast

8:30 – 9:20      Sonya Weisshappel, CEO of Seriatim will discuss The Importance of Knowing Exactly What You Own.  She is a professional organizer specializing in facilitating seamless life transitions.  As advisors, we’ve all seen estates that were a discombobulated mess of material things and financial assets – often with conflicting ownership arrangements – the kind of situation that can make you want to pull your hair out and scream!

She and her clients create a digital inventory of tangible items that may belong within the client’s home, office or storage unit.  Her clients can use the digital inventory to make informed decisions about what they want to keep, gift or toss.  They can then optimally protect their wealth with various legal structures and insurance.  They fix problems before they arise and are prepared for any life transition such as an unforeseen incident, a medical emergency or death. Sonya’s services are probably most important at the death or transfer to a LTC facility for an aging parent.

This need is compounded if the kids are busy with their own lives or if they live in other states and don’t have time to deal with all the “Stuff”.

9:20 – 10:10  Robert R. Giordano, CLU, ChFC, AEP, MSFS, CPC, President & Senior Consultant of Independent Pension Services, Inc. will review establishing Custom Designed Retirement Plans.  CDRPsenable clients to obtain large tax deductions for the owners with very modest contributions for the rank-and-file.  At the opposite end of the spectrum owners can make very large employee contributions when recruiting from the Google/Goldman talent pool to offset stock options potential new hires might receive elsewhere.

Bob will show how to provide an amplified pre-retirement death benefit – life insurance – on a very tax-advantageous basis, review the two-step safe harbor unit credit benefit formula; how to combine a Profit Sharing/401(k) Plan with a Defined Benefit Plan; the documentation necessary to be and stay compliant and all kinds of cool things that can help you help your clients.

10:10 – 10:25  Break

10:25 – 11:15  Jane Beddall, M.A., J.D. of Dovetail Resolutions, LLC will offer a new perspective on Transition Planning for Family Businesses.  As an attorney and mediator, Jane has built a successful practice in dealing with the human relations issues involved in business settings.  These challenges often become amplified when they occur among various generations and stakeholders who are both active and inactive in the family business/piggybank.

She will discuss the “three-circle” model commonly used in family business consulting, which aids understanding of family businesses as a family enterprise system.  The Who, Why, When, Where and How of Family Business and Wealth Planning will be reviewed with the benefits therein as well as implications of incomplete or no planning, from incrementally increasing inefficiency and dysfunction to expensive and extensive litigation.

11:15 – 12:05  Ash Ahluwalia, President of National Social Security Partners, LLC will speak on Social Security: Maximizing Benefits Under the New Rules.  Many of us learned, often too late, about “file and suspend” or taking benefits early and then repaying without interest in exchange for a new higher benefit at an older age.  These cannot be done any more.

Come learn the new rules of the game from Ash who in 2016 was recognized as National Social Security Advisor of the Year.  He will review the calculation of benefits and update us on Spousal, Survivor, Divorce and Child (ren) benefits.  He’ll also touch on estate planning strategies and taxation of benefits.

We are very excited about all four speakers and participants in this discussion of how to assist and educate our clients as they age.

Four  (4) CE credits will be provided for NY Insurance, CFP, Accounting, PACE

Pending one (1) credit for Law
