About this event
The annual Symposium is the Society for Women of Letters' cornerstone event. In a beautiful, serene setting, we will gather for the purpose of intellectual discourse and the forging of community and professional connections among Christian women who value the life of the mind. The Symposium is designed to provide a high value experience for a diversity of thinkers: from lifelong learners and church ministry leaders to professional educators, authors, and scholars.
The 2022 Symposium will be held at The Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove–a stunning conference and retreat venue nestled in the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina.
This year's theme is Women of Deep Heaven: C.S. Lewis and the Intellectual Life and will feature Ms. Christiana Hale as the keynote speaker.
Christiana is a woman of letters with a special interest in C.S. Lewis and the literature of the medieval period through the early modern era. She is the author of Deeper Heaven: A Reader’s Guide to C.S. Lewis’s Ransom Trilogy and a classical educator. You can read more about Christiana on our Bluestockings in Residence page.
In addition to Christiana’s keynote lecture, the Symposium will include a variety of highly interactive sessions, including facilitated colloquies on works read prior to the event and topical mini-lectures followed by open discussion. In addition, attendees may look forward to scenic spots for coffee and conversation, fireside poetry readings, and prayer walks along the Cove’s beautiful woodland trails.
Symposium attendees will enjoy the following:
- Three nights in a lovely double-occupancy room in The Cove’s guest lodge
- All meals (Thursday evening through Sunday morning) in the award-winning dining room
- Unlimited cappuccino, tea, and frozen yogurt in the main lodge
- All Symposium sessions and materials
