103rd Annual Meeting of the Society for the Advancement of Scandinavian Study
May 2-4, 2013 in San Francisco The Scandinavian Department at the University of California, Berkeley, welcomes the Society for the Advancement of Scandinavian Study to San Francisco for its 103rd annual meeting to be held from 2-4 May in the San Francisco Hilton/Financial District. We anticipate a lively exchange of ideas, with thematic streams, diverse paper formats, a discussion on the state of the profession, and a spotlight focus on contemporary authors of the Nordic countries.
April 9 is the cutoff date for on-time conference registration. After that point, late registrations in both categories will carry a $40 late fee. Late registrations can be accommodated online until noon PDT on Wednesday, May 1, after which time participants will need to register late in person at the SASS registration desk at the hotel, open from 12-5 pm on Thursday, May 2, and during the conference itself.
A special series of consecutive sessions at the conference will feature conversations with five contemporary Nordic authors: Hanne Ørstavik (Norway), Sjón (Iceland), Rosa Liksom (Finland), Sara Stridsberg (Sweden), and Naja Marie Aidt (Denmark). These sessions are free and open to the public, but we still ask that those interested in attending only these sessions register at the conference, either online before May 1 or at the conference itself, in order to receive a name tag and help us plan our seating capacity.
REMINDER: All those presenting papers at the SASS Conference, whether US domestic and foreign scholars, must be members of SASS in good standing at the time of the conference.
