Event Description | This hands-on session will explore how to use relatively inexpensive technology–including 360 cameras and virtual reality headsets–as tools for immersive story telling. Participants will have the opportunity to take 360 pictures and use the SocialVR platform to create a narrative.
Background | SocialVR, an easy-to-use browser-based tool to create virtual reality (VR) stories using 360-photos, videos, and interactive media hotspots. SocialVR was developed at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Art during the summer of 2016. Our motivation is to make complex and creative storytelling tools available to non-technical individuals and youth; increase teacher access to integrate tech tools into the classroom; improve the capacity for education and community institutions to adopt new technologies for storytelling; and make the VR viewing experience less isolating and more social.
