Event description

Description

The unfolding ecological crisis is a threat to social justice, human wellbeing and efforts to eliminate poverty. Its roots lie in an extractivist economic system which is failing the majority of people, fuels conflict and further entrenches global inequality. The left is uniquely equipped to deal with these capitalist underpinnings, as part of a broader transformation of society in the interests of the many. But are we prepared to be as radical as the situation requires in government? How can we make sure the energy transition does not leave workers behind, and environmental policies do not entrench existing inequalities? And can we reconcile the model of redistributing the benefits of growth with the reality of a finite planet?

In this discussion we will explore these issues, set priorities and leave with concrete actions to advance environmental policies in our local groups, unions and with representatives.
