Join Social Venture Partners Boston and our special guests on January 4th in discussing the power of venture philanthropy to drive critical social change. An SVP Boston Partner and global venture philanthropist will talk about trends in the space before introducing former chairman of Microsoft India, Ravi Venkatesan, to share Social Venture Partners India's audacious new goal, the Million Jobs Mission, of training and empowering one million people for sustainable livelihoods by 2020.


Ravi Venkatesan, SVP India Chairman

Ravi Venkatesan is the founding Chairman of Social Venture Partners India, a partner at Unitus Seed Fund, and a fund advisor at Kalaari Capital. Ravi serves on the boards of Bank of Baroda, Rockefeller Foundation, Infosys Ltd., and several advisory boards. He is the author of an acclaimed book 'Conquering the Chaos: Win in India, Win Everywhere' published by Harvard Business Review.

As Chairman of Microsoft India between 2004 and 2011, Ravi helped build Microsoft India into Microsoft's second-largest presence in the world. He was instrumental in creating Microsoft India's Project Shiksha, a computer literacy program which has so far trained over 40 million school children in India. Ravi was previously the Chairman of Cummins India and led its transformation into India's leading provider of engines and power solutions. He helped establish the Cummins College of Engineering, India's first engineering college for women, in Pune.

Ravi has a B.S. from IIT Bombay, an MS from Purdue University, and an MBA from Harvard Business School where he was a Baker Scholar. He is a recipient of the IIT Bombay's Distinguished Alumnus Award and Purdue University's Distinguished Engineering Alumnus Award. He was voted as one of India's best management thinkers by Thinkers50.


Doug Miller, SVP Boston Partner

Doug Miller is the Founding Chairman of the European Venture Philanthropy Association as well as the Asian Venture Philanthropy Network. Both of these groups work to expand the practice of venture philanthropy on a pan-European/pan-Asian basis. Doug is a supporter of several other venture philanthropy funds, including New Profit and the Impetus Trust in London, where he was a Founding Trustee. Doug is also an active supporter of organizations in education, international development, and microfinance. Doug spent 40 years in the financial services industry, primarily in private equity.
