How can a small business or startup be disruptive and accelerate growth through effective social marketing? How can a big business stay relevant using these same techniques? Whether you’re in the process of creating a new brand or want to brush up on the latest strategies, tools, and techniques of the trade, this workshop aims to rewire the way we think about social marketing in a practical and example-rich way. Useful for those working in tech-based startups, as well as those in the business of making and selling of physical stuff, big or small scale.


  • Learn key techniques for identifying unique cultural opportunities to connect with consumers and their culture.
  • Identify the cultural role(s) of your brand and also the (often misunderstood) role(s) of your competition.
  • Learn how some of the best brands achieve the social pull they have through case studies.
  • Create a social strategy for your brand (or a made-up brand).
  • Create a plan for implementing your strategy across different platforms: from experiential to Instagram.
  • Collect a bibliography and list of resources for further learning.

Students should also have a curiosity and an enthusiasm for critical thinking, and a willingness to listen and collaborate with others.


Collyn Ahart is a brand and cultural strategy consultant and start-up founder, having worked in the industry for over 10 years with brands Rapha, Nike, ASICS, Sky, Divine Chocolate, Three, and CocaCola. From an agency background at Poke, Wieden+Kennedy and Lewis Moberley, she is American by birth but an adventurer at heart with a taste for fresh air and exploding the way brands do business.
