About Shonali Burke
Shonali Burke is the IABC-accredited, award-winning president and CEO of Shonali Burke Consulting, Inc. and serves as adjunct faculty for Johns Hopkins University’s M.A. in Communication program. During her career, Shonali has launched landmark entertainment events, including for Cirque du Soleil and Russell Simmons; led communications for the ASPCA, including through the 2007 pet food recall and Michael Vick case; and given refugees a voice both online and off via USA for UNHCR’s Blue Key campaign. In 2013, she joined a select group of professionals engaged by Rutgers University to teach its new Public Relations certificate course.
Founder of the #measurePR hashtag and Twitter chat, Shonali has been named one of PRWeek’s "top 40 under 40" PR professionals in the U.S., one of 100 PR pros worth following on Twitter, one of 25 women that rock social media, and she was featured at TEDxAdamsMorganWomen in December 2012. She is scheduled to present at two sessions during the PRSA 2014 International Conference in Washington, D.C., in October.
Shonali blogs at Waxing UnLyrical under the watchful eyes of Chuck, Suzy Q. and Lola, her three rescue dogs, and vigorously defends her right to remain an Elvis fan long after he left the building.
When & Where
The Memphis chapter of the Public Relations Society of America is a melting pot of close to 200 communicators in positions with large corporations, small private companies, consulting firms, nonprofit agencies, educational institutions and free-lancers.
The Memphis Chapter was founded in 1952 when about 10 professionals met at the Peabody Hotel in downtown Memphis. Today, more than 50 years later, almost 200 members meet throughout the year for programs, professional development seminars, awards programs and socials.
The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), headquartered in New York City, is the world's largest organization for public relations professionals.
