Social Mobility Initiatives - Policy Meet
Wed, April 19, 2017, 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM BST
Join the Education Policy Network to discuss school-led Social Mobility inititiatives and how to improve collaboration between schools on such initiatives.
There will be drinks and snacks available and plenty of opportunity to network after the 'Teach-meet' style presentations.
The Social Mobility Commission's State of the Nation report found that:
Only 1 in 8 children from low-income backgrounds is likely to become a high-income earner as an adult
Just 5% of children eligible for free school meals gain 5 A grades at GCSE
Only 4% of doctors, 6% of barristers and 11% of journalists are from working-class backgrounds
Our question is: what can schools do about these trends and how can schools better collaborate to improve Social Mobility?
There will be 5 x 5 minute presentations on different school led initiatives for increasing social mobility from improving access to careers to the development of soft skills in the classroom. After the presentations there will be time for Q & As and a further networking opportunity.
If you would like to present on your own school initiative please email email@example.com.
