Social Media to Save Lives
Marrow Registry Drive
March 6, 2012
Social Media Club Sacramento and BloodSource are partnering to host a marrow registry drive to raise awareness about the Be The Match marrow registry process. Thousands of patients hope for a bone marrow donor who can make their life-saving transplant possible. They depend on everyday people. We all have the power to save a life; joining the registry is the first step. Leveraging the dragonfly effect of social media, organizers are hoping to collect over 60 new registry participants from the Sacramento community.
Joining Be The Match registry is easy. The process takes around 15 minutes and includes; eligibility review, paperwork, simple swab of the inside of the cheek and a good faith commitment to donate to anyone in need.
Beverages and appetizers will be provided, thanks to our refreshment sponsors Drewski's Hot Rod Kitchen and Chick-fil-A Arden Fair. Additionally, anyone who attends, regardless of whether they join the registry, will receive a goody bag with gifts from TreyBCakes, Laughs Unlimited and other sponsors.
Be The Match benefits the National Marrow Donor Program. Each year, 10,000 patients need a marrow or cord blood transplant from an unrelated donor, but only half receive one.
This is an Open House event that runs from 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.-- Participants may drop in any time during the event
There is no cost to participants. BloodSource provides this fee-waived opportunity, recognizing the importance of marrow registry and blood donation to help patients in need.
You must be at least 18 years old but not older than 60 years old to join the registry.
