Social Media Hacked: Understanding Social Media Attacks and Defenses
Tuesday, March 11, 2014 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM (EDT)
James Taliento, CISSP is an active information security consultant and the Director of Technology for a large private high school on Long Island. James has held many positions in the technology food chain and has consulted on matters of security for clients across the globe; primarily focusing on assessing the security of web applications.
Social Media is all about gaining exposure. It is no longer thought of as a toy, but rather as a tool; and when used correctly, can launch your brand into the spotlight. In the eyes of a growing business, this is amazing bridge to cross, but it does come with a degree of risk. As your brand begins to pick up momentum and grow its value, it also becomes valuable to a darker side of the web.
Social Media security is a relatively new topic that is not well understood. It is believed that because these robust platforms are operated by a third-party, that security falls on the lap of the network itself.
There are many attack vectors, both technical and social, and when successfully exploited, these attacks are devastating to the reputation of one's public image. An image that is now developed and destroyed in real time through social media.
In this talk, James will discuss some of the different types of social media attacks and how you can go about defending against them. The audience will learn what is at risk, why they are being targeted, and who is targeting them.
