The role of public relations practitioners continues to evolve and expand, and professionals are now expected to be well versed in all forms of integrated communications, including social media. How can PR pros stay on top of the latest social media best practices with so many competing communication channels to follow? 

This half-day summer workshop is designed to equip communications professionals with the tools needed to excel at social media. Attendees will learn the latest in social media trends, gain knowledge on buidling a robust social media strategy, and get platform-specific tips and tricks to make social media content stand out.  

Hear from speakers on topics including:

  • Break the Algorithm: Strategies for Creating Break-Through Content
  • Mastering Instagram Stories: How to Activate Your Audience 
  • Twitter Engagement: The Right (and Wrong) Ways to Engage with Media Online

Guest speakers include:

Brent Bernasconi, San Diego Tourism AuthorityBrent is the Social Media Manager for the San Diego Tourism Authority, where oversees SDTA's domestic and international Social Media programs. Earlier this year, he was recognized by San Diego Magazine for having one of the "15 coolest jobs in San Diego." But it's not all sunsets and surf sessions. rent will advise on why communicators need to understand different social media platforms and explain the ROI, with a focus on Instagram, a channel he uses to influence travel decisions and drive visitor demand to economically benefit the San Diego region.
Luis Gomez, San Diego Union-Tribune: Luis is an engagement editor with The San Diego Union-Tribune's Ideas & Opinion section and co-host of the new podcast, “The Conversation with Abby and Luis.” He has been a digital journalist for various news organizations including Yahoo, Southern California Public Radio,, OraTV, and most recently the Institute for Nonprofit News. He is also the founder of RunGomez, a newsletter for media and journalism jobs in California. Luis will discuss the benefits of personal/professional engagement on Twitter, the right (and wrong) ways for PR people to interact with media online, and the overall importance of engagement and jumping into the conversation. 
Stephanie Liu, "Lights, Camera, Live"Stephanie Liu is an award-winning digital marketing strategist that started her own consultancy after spending a decade at integrated agencies fine-tuning her skills on all things digital. Stephanie has worked with startups, small businesses and Fortune 500 companies alike, and knows exactly what it takes to get  prospects to stop, look and listen to what you have to say on social media. Stephanie will share information on the ever-changing 2018 social media landscape and how you can stay ahead of the curve and in front of the algorithm.
