Event Details

Net Impact NYC's Social Innovation Hack, a non-coding event, brings together passionate and creative professionals from the private and nonprofit sectors and aspiring entrepreneurs to find new solutions to address global challenges. During the 2-day, participants will learn from experts and form teams to create a social enterprise from scratch to pitch to a panel of judges. Prior experience is not necessary.

Why is the Social Innovation Hack unique?

The Social Innovation Hack is not tech-focused and does not require coding or tech experience. It is focused on learning and empowering participants to use their existing skills and expertise to develop new solutions (product and/or service) to address global challenges. The entire weekend is structured so that teams (to be formed at the event) can learn how to take an idea from concept to launch.

Why focus on global poverty?

According to The World Bank, 1 in 10 people in the world live on less than $1.90 per day and a majority “live in rural areas and are poorly educated, mostly employed in the agricultural sector, and over half are under 18 years of age”. In the U.S. in 2015, 43.1 million people lived below the poverty line (e.g. $24, 447 for a family of 4). Product and/or service solutions tackling global poverty can encompass economic, climate and environment, education, gender and health and nutrition among other issues.

Why attend?

If you want to make a difference, have a business solution to aid in ending global poverty or just want to learn how to turn an idea to an actionable business and contribute to a team, this event is for you. You will walk away from the hack equipped with skills in social entrepreneurship and lean impact, deeper connections with like-minded professionals, a viable social enterprise and possibly, prizes. Learn more here.

NOTE: You do not have to have a solution/an idea or team to participate. During the registration process, you will have an opportunity to suggest a solution/an idea. On Saturday morning, you will form teams, consisting of 3-5 individuals, based on your selection of available solutions/ideas. You do not have to work or your solution/idea during the event.
