Description

Is your teen developing social skills beyond the screen?

Social media is always on, but climbing rates of anxiety disorders and social isolation suggest that our teens aren’t building the kinds of connections — or learning the skills to make the connections— that are critical for their future health, wealth and happiness.

Emotional intelligence, or social fluency, has been linked to academic achievement, success in business and even long term health outcomes. These skill are often perceived as fixed personality traits, which some people have and others lack. In truth, they can be learned just like learning to drive or speaking a second language.

The Killarney Parent Advisory Committee invites you to an uplifting evening of discussion and practical exercises for helping our teens (and ourselves!) develop and foster healthy social connections.

About the presenter:

Aaron Alexander has a unique background in psychology, theater and youth work.

Over 15 years Aaron served as therapeutic youth worker and mentor in a variety of community organizations and Executive Director of the Youth Restorative Action Project. He is the author of two critically acclaimed books of psychological methods for professional magicians, stage hypnotists and mystery entertainers and has taught Social Fluency programs developed for corporate leadership teams from Bay St, to Silicon Valley. He is a sought-after consultant and guest lecturer to government agencies and universities, including Edmonton Child and Family Services and the UBC Integrated Sciences program.
