Description

Mental Health in children and young people is at crisis point, particularly when there are Special Educational Needs or Disabilities involved.

We are delighted to welcome independent social worker Cathie Long to our Sunshine Support workshops.

About Cathie

Cathie qualified has worked as a qualified Social Worker since 1993. She holds:

  • A Post-Qualifying Award in Social Work
  • A Master of Arts in Autism
  • The Professional Learning Award Outstanding Achievement (Autism) from the University of South Wales in December 2017.
  • Approved Mental Health Professional status

Cathie has been an independent social worker since April 2011. She provides:

  • Expert witness assessments and reports for both adults and children with complex needs for Education Tribunals and/or Judicial Reviews.
  • Parenting Assessments, particularly where the parent(s) and/or children have special needs.
  • Assessments of individuals detained in secure hospitals under the Mental Health Act 1983
  • Assessments of complex, high profile cases where she has confidently asserted her professional views and consequently excellent outcomes have been achieved.
  • Courses on Autism, the Care Act 2014, Safeguarding Adults, Young People and Children
  • Teaching at major Universities to doctorate educational psychologists on the principles and application of the Mental Capacity Act 2005


Cathie’s Workshop Agenda

During Cathie’s workshop you will learn a lot about social care, in particular she will be covering:

  • Social Care and its role in EHCPs (Education Health Care Plans)
  • Mental Health of Children + Young People with SEND
  • Family & Parenting Assessments
  • Section 20 and what this means

Cathie will also be taking your questions on the night, so if there’s something specific you’d like to ask you are more than welcome.

Absolutely! We want to share the right information with everyone who supports children and young people with special educational needs, or additional needs, and we would love for you to attend.

My child doesn't have a diagnosis, can I still attend?

Yes, absolutely! This is for you. You have questions that need answering I'm sure, so let us help.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

There is parking available, and there is a ramp should you require wheelchair access. The Derby Conference Centre is located near the train station and on popular bus routes.

Can I bring my child/children?

The event is not suitable for children, and so we recommend they do not attend.

Yes, the cost will be £22 per parent/carer and £27 for professionals.
