Event description

Description

Discover the simple method of cold-process soapmaking from scratch! Learn how to (safely) combine lye with a variety of fixed oils ranging from olive oil to lard. We will be exploring the use of additives and their properties, along with carrier oils, fragrance oils, essential oils, scents, nutrients, exfoliants, and colorants to create just the right bar of soap for you. You will make your own 1 lb. batch of soap to take home – enough for 5 large bars!

Location: Creamery Classroom Class Fee: Members $70, including lunch. Non-members $80, including lunch.

Requires advance registration, limited to 6 participants.

Due to the use of lye in this class, please wear full-length sleeves and leg coverings, as well as closed-toe shoes. You will also need to bring elbow-length rubber gloves and an apron. All other materials will be provided.

Your workshop includes a delicious boxed lunch and you will find the menu listed below. Please choose Option I, II, or III and email your choice by October 18th to t.glisson@farmersmuseum.org. If no choice is made, choice I will be ordered for you.

OPTION I: Ham & Swiss with lettuce, tomato, and onion on a wheat wrap

OPTION II: Turkey & Cheese with lettuce, tomato, and onion on a wheat wrap

OPTION III: Veggie Wrap-Hummus & assorted vegetables on a spinach wrap

All lunches include a bag of chips, apple, cookie, and bottled water.
