Event description

Description

Are you new to holding fundraising events? Is the reward worth the time and effort? Learn the best ways to turn a grassroots event into a success for your organization. Walk away with hints on how to get the most out of every dollar spent, how to give guests a memorable experience that will bump your organization up their priority list, and creative ways to reach out to attendees after the event is over. This workshop is interactive, and we look forward to talking through your event ideas and challenges with a group of your peers and your speaker, a professional nonprofit event planner.

Objectives:

  • Learn when an event is right for your organization (hint: it isn’t always the answer!)

  • Learn how to keep your mission front and center at your events

  • Learn how to begin and strengthen donor relationships through events

  • Learn how to make event volunteers part of your success

Target Audience:

This workshop is most appropriate for staff, board, and volunteers of small-to-mid size nonprofits.

**PLEASE NOTE: If this event has a wait list, Foundation for MetroWest will prioritize giving tickets to nonprofit board members, staff, and/or volunteers of MetroWest serving nonprofit organizations.

Presenters:

Karin Turer, Tugboat 23 Consulting

After a varied career in nonprofits ranging from finding homes for exchange students to recruiting volunteers to play with homeless children, Karin Turer found herself planning events more and more frequently - not just for her employers, but also for the nonprofit boards she served on. In 2011, Karin formed Tugboat 23 Consulting to help guide grassroots nonprofits to fundraising success. Although she does some general fundraising work or appeal-writing on occasion, her heart lies with the excitement of creating events that stay on-mission and bring loyalty and funds to her clients. She is proud to work with an eclectic assortment of clients on a wide variety of events, ranging from large-scale outdoor festivals in Boston’s public parks to 400+ person gala events to brunch events in a historic church. She is available not just for organizing an event from A-Z, but also for smaller roles - as a volunteer manager, day-of-event manager, or event design consultant. Karin is always delighted to talk about her work, or about bicycles, the Red Sox, or her very energetic 8-year old son.
