Description

So much things to say: Writing the Letter Poem

(a workshop for writers at all levels)

Let’s consider the Epistolary: an idea or feeling or consideration told through the form of a letter. Its intimacy. Familiarity between the speaker and the recipient--another person, a place, a thing, a concept, a point in time. The epistolary provides the speaker freedom--to render the political in a confessional voice. In this four-session workshop, we will read, and discuss successful epistolary poems, and compose our own letters to elsewhere. This workshop is for writers of all levels who want a community, want rigorous reading and thinking, and want to write some letters to the world.

We will meet on four consecutive TUESDAYS, beginning July 11, until August 1 from 7:00PM-8:30PM.***

Registration for Workshop-only is $110.00 for the four sessions. We will cap the workshop at 12.

Registration for Workshop (4 sessions) + a 10 page written manuscript review is $150.00.

***the date on Eventbrite is the FIRST DATE of the workshop. Full workshop dates are: July 11, 18, 25, and August 1.

This workshop is sponsored by BAILEY's CAFE.

Bailey’s Café” is a literary reference, from a novel of the same name by Gloria Naylor, based on the stories of people who find themselves at the edge of the world and seek a place to heal and ground themselves.

At our core, We Believe that healthy, vibrant communities have spaces where people can go to find their personal relevance and sense of purpose, nurture their individual growth, and make connections with other people, including across generations. We create physical and virtual spaces in partnership with local leaders, artists, and inter-generational volunteers, through a focus on community building, service, and the arts.
