Event Details

It looks like the weather might cooperate so we are going to try this again...

WHERE: Big Meadow Trailhead is located about 2 hours from Roseville. Take Hwy 50 east to Tahoe. Turn right at the Hwy 89 junction and continue until you see sign on the left, about 5 miles from Hwy 50.

WHAT: This is a moderate level snowshoe trek of about 7 miles round trip and a total of about 1100 feet elevation gain. We will be hiking along a section of the Tahoe Rim Trail south of highway 89. It starts with a moderate climb through a forest, but the grade eases after .5 miles as we enter Big Meadow. We will climb again before descending and taking the turn-off to picturesque Dardanelles Lake. We’ll have lunch here before the return trip.

WHEN: We are planning to meet at 7 a.m. at Latrobe Rd. Starbucks (off Hwy 50). Since we are carpooling be prepared to help out drivers with gas money (A good rule of thumb is $2.50 for each hour of drive time). There is no fee to park there but if you have a snowpark pass, bring it just in case.

WHAT TO BRING: Layered clothing that wicks moisture, Hat, Sunscreen, Sunglasses, gaiters, gloves, waterproof hiking boots, snowshoes, poles and waterproof shell or jacket. Bring at least 2 liter containers for water (hydration bladders or Nalgene-type bottles), and lunch and snacks.

NOTE: registration closes on Saturday March 12, 2011 at 8:00 PM. You will not be able to register after the above date. Events with no registrations will be canceled. Bad weather forecast cancels, but you will be notified if that is the case. Please print out and bring a signed copy of the Liability Release found on the snowshoe page on BAS website and bring with you the morning of the hike. You are also asked to be a member of Bayside Adventure Sports.  For information on membership and to sign up, contact Pam Harvey at
