Transportation and Tourism
Do you know the way to Tampa Bay?
Much has been said about how better and more transportation options are needed for the Tampa Bay region to compete economically with other metropolitan areas, including those within the state. According to Florida Tax Watch Investing in Tourism analysis, tourism is the number one provider of jobs for Floridians and provides a significant amount of tax revenue for cities, counties, and the state. The analysis also suggests that increased tourism and its associated spending is one of the ways to diversity the Florida economy and create more jobs in many sectors including construction and transportation.
Once the marketing magic has convinced someone to vacation or attend a convention in the Tampa Bay area, how do visitors find their way here and get around once they arrive? SMPS Tampa Bay’s transportation program for 2014 will focus on how our transportation network expands our reach into new tourist markets, facilitates visitor access to more venues where they can spend tourist dollars, and extends benefits from serving the tourist market to local businesses and residents.
