Event description

Description

With 7 million visitors per year Washington DC’s own Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum is the third most visited museum in the world (following the Louvre in Paris and the National Museum of China in Beijing).

Let’s take a Sunday afternoon guided tour and see some the museum’s many highlights including:

- The Wright Brothers - Flyer

- World War I Aviation

- Charles Lindbergh - Spirit of St. Louis

- The Hindenburg

- World War II Aviation - Europe & Pacific

- Tuskegee Airmen

- Commercial Aviation History

- Apollo Program & The Moon Landing

- Etc.

It’s important to see the museum now because in December the Air & Space Museum will begin closing some of its galleries on a rotating basis as part of a $650 million, 5-year renovation project. While the museum will remain open during the renovation, many of the galleries listed above that we’ll be visiting are ones that will be closed during the renovation process.

Your tour host will be Robert Kelleman, the founder/director of the non-profit community organization Washington, DC History & Culture.

The tour will not be hosted by a member of the Air & Space Museum staff. If you are interested in one of those programs they are typically offered daily at 10:30 AM and 1:00 PM.
