Smithsonian American Art Museum Pop up
UNLEASH YOUR INNER ARTIST!®
ArtJamz is headed back to the Smithsonian American Art Museum for six Jamming Take 5! pop up sessions filled with paint, live jazz and wine in the stunning Kogod Courtyard. The sessions run every month starting March 20th and ending August 21st. ArtJammers will get a chance to paint fpr 1.5 hours from 5PM to 8PM while taking in the sounds of live jazz in the museum’s Kogod Courtyard.
Take 5! is free and open to the public; however, you can also paint. You receive a canvas that you get to keep and take home, an easel, smock, acrylic paints, brushes, art materials, the support of ArtJamz creative enablers and a chance to make art in one of America's most iconic museums. Participants also receive 20% off drinks and food at the Courtyard Café during the session. We encourage you to paint whatever you want – you are not restricted to paint the same thing in some kind of structured class – but our Creative Enablers are alwasy on hand to provide tips, guidance and encouragement.
Come anytime between 5 and 6:30PM to begin your 1.5HR ArtJamz session. Additional studio time can be purchased on location for $5 per hour.
THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE YOU JAMZ!
Metro: Gallery Place Chinatown Metro Station: Red, Green and Yellow Lines. 2-3 minute walk.
Bike: Capital Bike Share is block away.
Parking: Metered street parking is available but limited. There are numerous parking garages in the area.
ID. You don't need a printed ticket if you have your email / digital ticket. Save a tree.
We have smocks! However we are painting in a live studio environment, so wear things you don't mind getting paint on, ergo, leave the Louboutins at home, ladies. We use water-based acrylic paints, but still, we don't want any nice stuff to get paint on it … although, that would be very fashion forward if you did. Paint splats are so in!!
CAN I LEAVE MY CANVAS?
In short, no. We get asked a lot if people can leave their canvas(es) at the studio. Unfortunately, we don’t have storage space -- Dupont is expensive. We ask that you plan to take your canvas(es) with you. Leaving them at the studio is a bad option. Still, if you choose to leave your canvas(es) by doing so you acknowledge and agree the there is no gaurantee it will be there when you come back. You understand that your canvas might get lost or damaged and that it will get painted over within 24 hours and re-sold as discounted "recycled canvas." We have carry bags available for $2.50 that you can use to carry your canvas out and we have blow-dryers at the studio to help with drying.
VOUCHERS AND GIFT CARDS
We do not accept vouchers, coupons or gift cards at our pop-up events.
POP-UP TICKETS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE
Pop-ups are live one-off events with limited capacity much like concerts, theatrical performances or movies. As such, tickets are non-refundable unless you notify us in writing to firstname.lastname@example.org within 48hrs of the start of the event. There are no exceptions.
No one expects you to paint the Mona Lisa. In fact, there is a painting underneath the Mona Lisa, meaning even da Vinci at one point thought "this stinks, I think I'll paint over it." Some people come with ideas, pictures, concepts, etc. some people free style. Up to you. Either way our Creative Enablers are there to help you execute. There are no mistakes, just "evolution." Think of it more as "designing" a canvas as opposed to creating a painting.
We have lots of sketch and art books at the studio and you can access our PINTEREST PAGE for ideas ... or just ask our awesome Creative Enablers, who are always there to help guide you -- the wine and beer help too...
In order to purchase these tickets in installments, you'll need an Eventbrite account. Log in or sign up for a free account to continue.
