Social Media has changed the political landscape. Politicians can now reach their constituents on a more personal level. Campaigns can be affected by the "little guys," and the media no longer has all the stories first. It's a social media world and the politicians are pulling all the shots to keep up. So how has social media changed politics? Which social tools have made the biggest impacts? And, what are the keys to a succesful social media political campaign?

Jason is Votizen’s founding product designer and leads on product vision, visual design, and brand voice. Jason was the first designer hired at Mint.com in 2007 and held the leading role until Mint’s acquisition, when he became a Designer-in-Residence for Bessemer Venture Partners. He’s an advisor and mentor for 500 Startups, SV Angel, SSE Labs, and to many startups in Silicon Valley. In January 2012 he was named to Forbes 30 Under 30 for social media and mobile. He holds a Computer Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh, and was the youngest ever MFA candidate at Parsons School of Design.
Brian Purchia, previous New Media Strategist for Gavin Newsom
Brian is a communications strategist who has served as a new media advisor for Fortune 500 companies and as a spokesman for San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, Change.org, and Green For All. He is recognized as a “Gov 2.0” leader for his work to improve civic engagement by making government more accessible by tapping into the power of social media. Purchia provides communications services to a wide range of clients including social change organizations, tech start-ups, politicians, labor unions and advocacy campaigns.
Josh Smith, Political Digital Strategist
Josh has been involved in technology with various levels of political campaigns since 2008. Josh lead technology for Horizon PAC and later Jon Huntsman For President, designing the architecture of their website, mobile apps, and texting platforms. Prior to that he developed a Social Sentiment Analysis engine for Meg Whitman's gubernatorial campaign, and has been involved in numerous issue advocacy projects from casino legislation and tax initiatives, to the proposition for public funds for the 49ers new stadium. In addition to his work in politics, Josh leads a consulting shop servicing various movie and game studios in both mobile and social media.
