When it comes to your career, social media can be a double-edged sword. Like a champ, you can use networks like LinkedIn to research and reach out to potential influencers and employers, but those employers might likewise peruse your social profiles and see political rants or risque photos on Twitter or Facebook. In fact, a recent study commissioned by CareerBuilder found that over 40% of hiring managers who currently research candidates via social media have found information that caused them not to hire a candidate.
How do you keep your online presence career- and network-friendly? Our panel of experts will discuss how social media can impact your career path, for better or worse - and we are shooting for better! Hear how to take advantage of the career-building opportunities that social media has to offer, while avoiding missteps that can hurt your online reputation.
Our career-savvy, misstep-preventing panelists are:
- Lionel Menchaca, Director of Content Engagement for W2O Group
- Lani Rosales, Austin Digital Jobs, COO of agbeat.com
- Sheridan Hall, Technical Recruiter at Whole Foods
- Kim Hollenshead, VMware, University Recruiter
Ian Greenleigh, author and Senior Content and Social Strategist at Bazaarvoice, will moderate the discussion.
Join us at 6:00 for pizza, networking and mingling. Our panel discussion starts at about 6:30. Hope to see you there!
