Description

Join AHA for our FREE workshop all about smart solutions to help schools win on wellness an earn recognition through AHA's Healthy School Awards in the process.

New WCPSS Wellness Policy

  • Brenda Eilliott, WCPSS Assistant Superintendent, Student Services Support, will explain the School Health Advisory Council's work and share highlights of the new School Wellness Policy adopted by the School Board in June.

USDA Smart Snacks

  • Smart Snakcs in Schools standards are incorporated in the new Wellness Policy. Learn what these standards are and how to determine if snacks meet the criteria.

Active Transportation

  • Walking/biking to/at school provides students with daily opportunities to be active and start their school day focused and ready to learn.
  • Learn why it matters, what resources are available, and how your school can win AHA's Sneakers and Spokes Award.

Measuring Wellness & A Roadmap to Change

  • Hear about the Healthy Schools Program from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation and how schools can use this FREE tool to assess their school wellness and put action plans into place to win on wellness.
  • Schools in Wake County that meet criteria in 3 specific modules can earn AHA's Brains and Bodies Award.
  • Incidentally, being Smart Snacks savvy and promoting walk/bike to school will go a long way towards your school qualifying for this award!

The workshop is offered twice on Sept. 27-- choose whichever time works best for you.
