Too many times we’ve heard stories on the news or from our friends about innocent victims being attacked, robbed, or physically harmed. Contrary to popular belief these attacks often happen in places where we feel the safest. The good news is that there are several things you can do to minimize the risk, just by being aware. And, should there be a case where you cannot avoid the situation, there are thing you can do to minimize the risks and increase your success in overcoming the challenge. With this systematic approach, you will be able to remove yourself from danger and get out safely.
In this 2-hour workshop participants will learn essential self-defense and practice ways of dealing with real situations that may occur. In order to achieve this, participants need to be willing experience strikes, pressure and stress similar to combat situations to get the most out of the work. That being said, participants can participate to the degree/level that they are comfortable. In this mini-course, participants will receive instruction on conditioning, striking, locking, escapes, the basics of ground fighting and the importance of relaxation. We will take a holistic approach to self-defense, emphasizing both physical and psychological strategies, as this will help you achieve the best results. This approach, in addition to giving you key survival skills, is designed to increase your awareness, self-confidence and sense of personal power. Please come comfortably dressed with loose-fitted clothing like sweats or yoga gear, and be ready to have fun.
About the Instructor
Julio Cortes is trained in human dynamics and extensive martial arts and healing techniques. Julio has created a system of coaching and training that assists people in living more authentically, as they find the bigger picture in their lives. He is a fourth degree black belt in Traditional Chinese Internal Kung-fu (Taijiquan,Xingyiquan, Baguazhang) and is also certified to teach the Russian Art of Systema. With over 30 years of training a number of different styles that also includes Boxing, Muy Thai, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, Wing-chun, Jeet Kune Do, Systema, Japanese Juijitsu, and Kali, Julio helps students find forms of movement and self defense appropriate for their body and personality.
