Presented by the Indio Police Department in partnership with the University of California, Riverside, the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), CNA-a non-profit research organization, and the Office of the Attorney General, this event is open to representatives from law enforcement agencies, educators, policymakers, community leaders, and individuals with an interest in the field of criminal justice and in the role of applied research in law enforcement. This presentation will feature Indio’s Smart Policing Initiative (SPI) research project, presented by Dr. Robert Nash Parker who has identified a correlation between truancy rates and burglary crime in Indio, Calif. The SPI has a number of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) providing a wide range of knowledge and expertise in the criminal justice field. Ms. Hildy Saizow, Senior SME at CNA, based in Alexandria, VA, will be presenting BJA's SPI program. Catherine Z. Ysrael, Deputy Attorney General, will be presenting the 2013 Report on California's Elementary School Truancy and Absenteeism Crisis.
