Smart Grid Consumer Engagement and Motivation:
What Motivates Consumers Around the Smart Grid - A Discussion with Patty Durand and Cheryl Linder
Patty Durand, Executive Director, Smart Grid Consumer Collaborative
Cheryl Linder, IBM Global Energy & Utilities
The Smart Grid Consumer Collaborative (SGCC) recently released the study: Motivations and Emotions of Engaged Consumers. Our guest speaker Patty Durand, SGCC's initial Executive Director since 2011, will explore the differences in consumers’ self-perceptions of engagement against utility perception of engagement, and look at the factors that motivate consumer engagement in each case. Patty will also share insights into what it really means to motivate and engage consumers around energy management and smart grid-enabled programs. Hint: ease-of-use is missing in most utility’s communications with consumers.
SGCC also just released its Consumer Pulse and Segmentation study. With over 7,000 U.S. residential consumer interviews it is the most comprehensive resource examining the factors that motivate consumer engagement around smart grid solutions.
Joining Patty, Cheryl Linder, who manages the development of customer focused solutions for IBM’s global energy and utilities industry and serves on the Board of SGCC, will share insights on consumer engagement from numerous IBM led efforts. Cheryl will also provide analysis from the just released IBM report on Millennials in the Workplace.
Smart Grid Northwest Executive Director Bryce Yonker will moderate a discussion with Patty and Cheryl covering the most important elements of smart grid consumer engagement. In addition to Smart Grid Northwest, Bryce also is a director at Clean Edge, a market research firm covering clean energy and grid intelligence industries. Bryce will share results from the Clean Edge and Solar City Homeowner Survey on Clean Energy.
