Event description

Description

What are smart cities, you ask? Around the globe, cities are developing new ways to use data and technology to improve quality of life and spark innovation, including right here in Spokane, Washington! Smart cities gather and analyze data from a variety of sources to develop solutions that can not only improve services and infrastructure for local citizens, but also address urban challenges – like energy and water usage, traffic, air quality, and waste. High school students are invited to come learn all about Spokane’s Smart City initiative, Urbanova, taking shape in the University District.

During this workshop, high school students will learn from several Urbanova partners about key projects and research occurring in the 1.2 square mile University District. In addition, attendees will learn about the importance of data collection, smart street lights, air quality monitoring, and how a zero energy building is being designed to make a positive change in our community.

This workshop is specifically designed for high school students.

Urbanova is one of the innovators in the Smart City movement, bringing together leaders in utility infrastructure, smart metering and communications, higher education, energy efficiency, population health, and urban planning to create a smart city technology proving ground in the heart of Spokane, Washington. Come learn about this large, collaborative project!
